Interview: 20-Year Old Deandre Harris Speaks Out About Being Assaulted by White Supremacists in Charlottesville, Va.

quote [ Harris said if it wasn’t for his friends who noticed him under the pile of white supremacists and helping him, he probably wouldn’t be alive to tell his story. Harris is in the process of pressing charges and the photographer who took the photo is helping his mother identify the racists who took part in the attack.

After the photo made its rounds on social media, many people noticed that the parking garage where the assault took place was right near the Charlottesville police department. And of course, we know how this story goes. ]

Get your shit together, America. These are terrorists.

So, a quick rundown of some of the major players on the alt-right:

Andrew Anglin, owner of the Daily Stormer: currently living in Nigeria. Yes, the African Nigeria.
Mike Peinovich, aka Mike Enoch, host of the Daily Shoah podcast: married a Jew.
Morrakiu, the "Weird Al" Yankovic of racism: certified Jewish AND black by 23andme. Wrote a song about it to the tune of Radiohead's "Creep":

Tyrant Fashister - Mixed Breed (REUPLOAD)

The erudite Dr. Greg Johnson, owner of the Counter Currents site, which is dedicated to translating and preserving fascist literature. Also wrote Trevor Lynch's White Nationalist Guide to the Movies. Spoiler: Django Unchained got a thumbs down. Less of a spoiler: Johnson is gay.

Dr. David Duke: the nicest grandfather you ever met. Has a very civil four hour chat with the blackety black Tommy Sotomayor on YouTube, thanks him for not cursing.

Why do I get the feeling that Deandre Harris' true story is more like the drunk college girls in Albany, NY who tried to slap other bus passengers around, then called 911 and said they'd been attacked by racists?

I know, right? Like, take people who don't admit to their dentist that they don't floss that often... they are clearly worse than racists who openly praise genocidal despots and slavers while trying to consolidate political power. The BLM movement has as its ultimate goal the active acknowledgement that black lives matter as much as the lives of whites in the face of a society that often acts as if they don't. That a small number of members of that movement are frustrated or angry enough at the lack of progress that they resort to violence is bad, but doesn't discredit the goal of the movement.

White supremacists, white nationalists, Klansmen, neo-Nazis, and the "alt-right" that aligns themselves with the former have as their ultimate goal the denying of the mattering of lives of all people different than them, up to and including enslaving and murdering others on an nation-wide scale. That some of them resort to immediate violence just means they aren't listening to their leaders, who would like them to keep it on the downlow and pretend to be hip Chads until they consolidate enough power to conduct mass violence with impunity.

But, yeah, we should totally treat both groups as equivalent.
GordonGuano said @ 6:06am GMT on 14th Aug
No true BLM would ever do anything bad, of course. You did see the students at Evergreen College presenting their list of demands to the dean, right? It's less "I Have A Dream" and more of a three year old screaming "I hate you, daddy" because they can't eat a can of cake frosting for supper.

My point, which escaped you, isn't about some individuals in the groups that may or may not be violent. It's about the actual goals of the groups themselves. If you can't see that society has more to fear from Nazis and Klansmen than it does from BLM, then I'm afraid you are lost from reality.

The issue here is that you forgive yourself for it. (and why wouldn't any of us?)

You, numbers, fish, etc. are so concerned that white people might be harmed, you've lost sight of the storm of injustice surrounding you.

There is a group of people that want to remove the babies/immigrants/race of a different color from this country. The 'other side' is simply asking to be treated as equals. You are arguing for the 'freedom of speech' of the first people to discuss HOW they will remove these people over time. At the SAME TIME you are arguing that these uppity blacks are too violent for your taste, FURTHER proving why, maybe, the first people had it right. (Not saying you agree, just that mumble mumble they should be able to talk about genocide?)

You can say the arguments are the exact same, just different sides. However, you have failed to convince anyone here, especially when 'your side' came out (here) and tried to claim the murderer was a 'leftist'. Now that it has been confirmed who they represent (via shield-bearing), the fall-back is 'this happens on both sides'.

You're lost. "Fire!" in a crowded theater doesn't sound like 'Maybe the blacks SHOULD still be slaves if we won the war'. To certain people it does. You wouldn't understand. We wish you would, but you don't seem to. Like I said to numbers, once someone has shown cognitive dissonance, there is very little chance that outside sources will convince them otherwise.

Nah, I know who I'm arguing with. There's only a few of you on this site, but you share the same delusion that you get to be the "deciders" of what people mean.

Really? A Margaret Sanger trope?

No, Margaret Sanger didn't want to kill black babies, she wanted to prevent ALL unwanted pregnancies via birth control. Roe V Wade wasn't even decided until 6 years after her death.

Trust me, you don't have access to people's "secret intentions".

Black Lives Matter will say their intention is to be treated equal in a society that the stats appear to show they are being inordinately singled out and abused. I take them at their word that their secret plan isn't to wipe out all white people.

Your white nationalist friends admit openly there is pure blood and impure blood. Again, I'm taking them at their word that they believe this.

Oh you're a middle of the road guy? In a previous post you bet (off no evidence whatsoever) that the terrorist driver at Charlottesville was antifa. When it is pointed out that he was right wing, no denunciation of right wing violence? No bias there, nosiree. We can see you sweating to fight off that cognitive dissonance malady. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Condemning both sides for the SAKE of condemning both sides would be stupid. Only one side had anyone murdered this last go round. Let's try to focus on condemning violence from its current source as opposed to arbitrarily saying both sides do it.

They want to form an ethnostate, which I fully support. Not because I want to live there, nor could I, only being more or less white-passing. But because I don't want my racially integrated family to have white nationalists for neighbors. Which sort of begs the question: why do you?

There is also a delicious sort of irony in the fact the alt-right ideal state, devoted to one ethnicity, with a giant and aggressively defended border wall, and sterilizing blacks without their consent, perfectly describes Israel. As Saint Pratchett observed, hate is an attractive force.
hellboy said @ 5:46am GMT on 14th Aug
You support it because you're an idiot. Where exactly do you think they're going to form this ethnostate? You think they're going to kindly move to some uninhabited island somewhere? They want to eliminate you and your "racially unpure" family.

I don't want white nationalists for neighbors, I want them to die off, which they inevitably will, because they're on the wrong side of history. There's nothing more pathetic than a butthurt white guy.

The foundation has been laid for them already in Idaho. You do realize that the entire movement would fit comfortably in Coeur d'Alene, right? And after a couple of months, when they're considering cannibalism, we can let them back in and laugh it off.
