There likely haven't been any actual conservatives in the USA (or anywhere else for that matter) for a long time now. Eric Blair commented in the 1940s that anyone who identified themselves as conservative was more likely an authoritarian or fascist and ignorant of the difference or unwilling to admit it.

You constantly see this in American political discourse, so many people completely unaware of where conservatism actually lies on the political spectrum. Unaware that "far right" by its very definition falls well beyond conservatism and that "ultra conservative" does not and cannot exist.
