Analysis | Here’s what the pins that Sheriff Clarke wears actually mean

quote [ Clarke’s political energy and background made him a deeply controversial figure, and the subject of a great deal of praise and criticism. Earlier this month, he became the target of a perhaps unexpected bit of critique, when a veteran took issue with Clarke’s appearance at the convention.

“Look at this f‑‑‑ing guy’s uniform,” Charles Clymer wrote on Twitter. “You see all that s‑‑t pinned all over his dress uniform jacket? That’s not supposed to be there.” ]

So many chickenhawks. So much for all that nonsense about personal responsibility.

Honorable mention pin

Album title had 'Hell' in the name, a flaming motorcycle ridden by a barbarian, a bat, and a cemetery setting

alls that lacks is a sword, or it would have been the most metal album cover of all time

The album cover may be metal, but what about the music?
KingPellinore said @ 6:26pm GMT on 1st Sep
Not metal.
arrowhen said @ 6:49pm GMT on 1st Sep
But metalhead-approved, at least back in the day.

Nothing really rocks, and nothing really rolls.

When I was a kid, the first time I saw that album cover was in a jukebox. I was just getting interested in heavier rock and it looked promising.

I was incredibly surprised to hear it sounded for more akin to Bruce Springsteen than Metallica.

Meatloaf probably got some cred from being in Rocky Horror.

Oh, indeed.

I don't think Rocky Horror conveys much street cred among metalheads.

Oh, sure, if you'd already heard Metallica I can see how Meat Loaf wouldn't sound very metal at all. But if your introduction to metal was more along the lines of Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, a song like Bat Out of Hell with its teenage motorcycle death lyrics and like 12 guitar solos wasn't that far from the mark.

Honest to god, grade 11, I had two tapes to listen to on my walkman on my daily 1 hour bus ride to school...Iron Maiden mixed tape & Meatloaf Bat out of Hell. I'm either the right or the wrong guy to ask.

Did you see Paradise by the Dashboard Lights (of the bus)?

I knew Charles Clymer on Xanga before the site died and now just an empty shell of its former glory. He's going places.
