How the fuck was this allowed to happen?

quote [ The great ISIS exodus: Investigation reveals 250 fighters and 3,500 of their family members were driven out of Raqqa in coalition deal and are now 'spreading across Syria and beyond' ]

So much for the war on ISIS.

They are not stupid...they left

not sure I trust The Daily Mail's take on this, or much of anything.

Much better. And, you are angry, I take it, that we didn't just blow them up along with the hospital filled with 400 wounded civilians they were holed up in?

In war as in anything else, a certain amount of give-and-take pragmatism is often necessary. Negotiating a conflict's end is especially delicate. Anyway, don't sweat it: Most of those guys are just happy they got out with their lives. The really fanatical ones were mostly already dead.

Of coarse not let them get in the caravan then blow them all to hell. Just trying to figure out how many will die in London or Paris because of this 250 fighters...6 months equals how many more dead?

Fewer than die from "Accidental suffocation in bed," anyway.

I know you didn't intend it that way, but it came out like you'd prefer that the Syrian people had kept up the assault until the last ISIS guy was dead, at the expense of several hundred additional casualties over the many thousands already dead, in order to reduce the risk of a terrorist attach on a Western city...

Isn't that the whole point of European involvement in Syria/Iraq/etc?

It has nothing to do with it being a western city. It has to do with these people are not done killing. It may be London or Amman but more will die because of what happened this day.

They had fought them for over a year, had them trapped and almost out of ammunition and food...they should have took their last breath that day.

That's uncharacteristically hawkish of you. I don't suppose you're volunteering to grab an A-K and finish the job though? Urban guerrilla warfare against 300 guys and their families, with hostages, and nothing to lose. Sounds like fun. I recommend packing a change of underwear.

No I'm Old and did my killing in another war. And hiding behind civilians is nothing new. and we uses different riffles AK's are Russian.

And these families...it's not like their mom and dad were in the war with them..this is not their home they are women they have taken as slaves and called their wives and any children they may have had.

Yes there was a great chance of civilians getting killed as well..there were a few left that that ISIS han't already killed...the ones they needed. And hopeful no more will get killed. But when men hold up in a hospital in the middle of an attack it could happen. It would be different. if these fighters were done laid down their arms are were willing to surrender..They were willing to fight to the last man killing every hostage in the process.

Now they will move to a different area take the 'Wives" with them and we will have to make the same decision all over again unless they dawn a suicide vest or a Truck bomb after they have killed all they can.

Not killing they was a mistake...it will cost lives, not save them
