'I Don't Believe In Science,' Says Flat-Earther Set To Launch Himself In Own Rocket

quote [ His name is "Mad" Mike Hughes, his steam-powered rocket is built of salvaged metals, his launch pad is repurposed from a used mobile home — and he is confident this will mark the first step toward proving the Earth is flat, after all. ]

$20k to fly 1800 feet up... He could probably fly suites class with Emirates for that price and it would at least get him to the bottom of the stratosphere (or... stratoplane, as it were?). I guess he figures jet travel is a lie too and they just shake you in a box in a semi-truck while playing movies of clouds on the tee-vee windows.

And when you reach your "destination" it's just your friends from the village dressed up as Swoofs.

Even if it's because he doesn't trust something he didn't build himself, there are plenty of kit planes that are cheap, safe, and will go higher for longer.

He only recently converted to being a flat-earther, and after he failed to rais money for a different rocket. I wonder if he's just getting money through this.

To prove conclusively once and for all that the Earth is flat, I will drive at great speed across a Bolivian salt flat while monitoring vertical lift to show that there is no curvature to the Earth. In order to do this, I will need a Lamborghini Veneno Roadster. Please donate your life savings to me to make this purchase of important research equipment so we can finally defeat Satan's Liberal Globalist agenda!

You know, you could actually pull this one out if you post it in a flat Earth community. Just give me a ride on your Veneno once you get the money for it.

He should consider broadcasting it on Pay-per-view and getting the proceeds posthumously .

Will you tube allow his death to be monetized?
