Flake: Trump battered and abused the truth

quote [ Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) took to the Senate floor to deliver a speech admonishing President Donald Trump for his attacks on the media and cries of fake news. ]

I'm sure a Sen. Joe Arpaio would give an equally gracefully speech about Trump

I'll admit I'm an outsider here in Canada but from what I've seen Flake seems like a good egg. I certainly may be wrong but that's what he seems to be.

Compared to other republicans, he's slightly less awful. He's still super conservative and votes the trump/party line almost 100%. Even as a super-conservative, he's still made himself unelectable by criticizing trump just a little bit.

Many forget that it is possible to be a conservative and still believe in the freedom of the press, governmental checks and balances, moderation, consensus, compromise, and the imperfect state of our Union and humanity in general, while yet striving to improve the lot of every citizen of our country, and indeed, the world. Hell, there are even still some liberals who believe that, too!

Yes. But if you don't believe in those things, or more likely don't care and you're just in it for yourself, you are more likely to join a right-wing than liberal party, because it is more conducive to your aims.

He's one of those people (it seems) who proves you can be a conservative without being a scumbag.

Keep in mind, you're looking at him in comparison to some of the scummiest of scumbags at a scummy time. He's still a scumbag, but a little less than he usually he is. Jared from Subway could come out with a speech against Trump right now and people would start asking if maybe those little girls were dressing a little too provocatively.

Its a shame there are not more like him in positions of power. Sadly it looks like his tenure has come to an end for the very reason there isn't more and most of his republican friends are in it to make as much money for themselves and their friends as they can instead.

When they're lined against the wall, Flake can sit in the stands.

Good one Silent, Trump himself will be using that hashtag........I'm sure his russian web-bots scouring the net will find that suggestion and let him know.

Who cares? His comments won't make a goddamn bit of difference. It'll make himself feel good that his legacy will include a bit of sensibility. Otherwise, he will be forgotten in no time while his votes still linger in support.
