It's rather interesting; her reflexes aren't bad for real-world things, but my brother and I have been playing video games since SMB was current-gen, and she's never been able to translate a controller or keyboard into on-screen actions for anything that requires quick reactions. She can type and use a computer just fine, but that skill is foreign to her.

I "beat it" all by myself, was so proud only to find out later that I needed to do it with a friend to ACTUALLY beat it. Goddamn it Taito. |

My sister and I would spend hours trying to beat that game. IIRC the closest we got was somewhere around level 80 on the second run through "super" mode of the game.

According to this explanation video, the program is based on the NEAT (NeuroEvolution of Augmented Topologies) genetic algorithm.

To be really interesting, the AI should be playing a coin-op machine, frantically mining the bitcoins to continue the game.
