Amazonians United Wins PTO for all Amazon Workers

Turns out so many of those workers who were told they didn't deserve $15/hour are essential. Who knew? If only some guy in the 1800's wrote about a theory of value centered around labor.

What can you do?

You can accept that your investment income is going to take a hit JUST LIKE EVERYBODY FUCKING ELSE, ASSHOLE.

Maybe you should have set aside more money in your rainy day fund. Maybe you should have cut back on indulging in luxuries like buying coffee from a cafe. Maybe you could get a second job.

Or maybe you shouldn't have assumed you'd be able to cruise on passive income for the rest of your life.

I got a call from my complex today, they're not raising rates on renewals like usual so I'm saving $35/month. You know, still kill all landlords but it's a nice gesture and they can be toward the end of the line.

Yup, so that's exactly why they're thumping to get everyone back into the stores tomorrow. "America's not built to shut down, we can't shut it down" It sounds like there's a bomb under this bus and I'm not sure how long we can just "circle around the airport".

They're willing for millions to die to prop up the market for just a few months. Insanity. Of course they were already doing that, but now it's mask off.

Sure, but if you're paying someone $100k for a job and two hundred people line up at your door willing and perfectly capable of doing the job for half that price, then what do you say to them? That they're not allowed to price their own labour for a competitive advantage?

Or maybe it's time to start asking why they're so desperate they'd undervalue their labor by 50%, and fix that problem instead of taking advantage of their desperation.

Economics are descriptive not prescriptive. It informs us what might be easy or difficult, not what we ought to do.

System is literally collapsing around you and you're still like, "But how could I not be expected to take advantage of people's desperation?"

No, I'm saying it's dangerous to generalize one way or the other. Marx's theories are as broken as Smith, Rothbard, Keynes, and Hayek's - just in different ways. My country is spending tens of billions bailing out vulnerable people from the chaos we today find ourselves in, and I think that's a perfectly sensible response. That doesn't mean that when it's all over I think people shouldn't be permitted to negotiate their salary.

Are you sure, because I'm pretty sure just about all previous economics related comments you've made on this site and the one before have been for a system that relies on a imbalance of power between ownership and labor. Matter of fact, I think the last time I wasted time replying to you, you were trying to pretty up a description of "foreign investing" that was ultimately neocolonialism.

This is the first time I have heard of Tara Reade.

When people ask me why I don't care for Biden ( other than the plagiarism thing) it is because I worked with a woman back in 86/7 (when Biden was first trying to be president) whom he made a pass at a fundraiser she was attending with her boyfriend. I assumed that there must be others out there with similar stories.

Now I know.
steele said @ 2:19am GMT on 27th Mar
Tara Reade is the first one openly accusing him of full on sexual assault, but there's been quite a number women accusing him of inappropriately touching them going even beyond just the memes of him sniffing hair. I saw a video the other day, which I unfortunately can't find right now, that was basically him just rubbing and sniffing every little girl that came near him and asking them how old they are and then telling them not to date until they're 30. Just over and over. Like it's one thing to have a go-to routine to communicate with kids, but that aint it, chief.

Haven't even watched all these yet.

That would be consistent as, if I recall correctly, she said he was constantly feeling her new fur coat ( back when that was a thing) and when he got her alone suggested that there might be room in there for two.

That tracks with rumors he wasn't allowed at certain functions because he couldn't keep his hands to himself. Supposedly he got in a fight at a christmas party or something with Secret Service guy for grabbing his girlfriend. Unfortunately that's the sort of stuff that's only covered by right wing tabloid types though, so who knows.
