Didn't Patrick Stewart cosplay as Spider Jerusalem? That whole series' intro story arc has a malfunctioning replicator (the AI that runs it is on drugs it replicated for itself) as well as the broken shower that removes all Spider's body hair.

There were a fair share of replicator malfunctions on that show already. As far as bootleg replicators, I don't think anyone would bother since you can replicate a replicator.

You know who's going to really hate replicators? Companies that sell products. But you know who else? Collectors of rarities. Some rich guy owns the only existing Roger Maris rookie card or whatever. Someone sneakily makes a molecular scan of it and now anyone can download the pattern and replicate it. Now the rich guy can't brag about being the only one with the card. Bad for the rich guy, good for everyone else.
