Five Memphis ex-police officers charged with murder over motorist’s death

quote [ Shelby county sheriff’s office online records showed that Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Desmond Mills Jr, Emmitt Martin III and Justin Smith were in custody. All five were charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, official misconduct and official oppression. ]

So white cops kill black guy and almost skate on it. Black cops kill black guy and straight to jhail.

totally not racist one bit.

Straight. To. Jail. They acted SWIFTLY, and I just can't help but think it was because they're Black. That being said, the police chief is ALSO Black, and I'm thinking she was making SURE this wasn't going to go like other cases. Regardless, the swift action is refreshing.

They wanted to distance themselves quickly from these five as if this isn't a systemic issue and something that happens a lot more than it should.

That third-party camera on the property really helped a lot. Even though the bodycams were incriminating enough, it could have easily been turned off or scrubbed.

as already stated in this thread, let's hope this is the start of a new trend for all cops

Yeah, I'm not holding my breath for that, but stranger things have happened.

They deserve to be charged and in prison for a long time, fuck 'em
Now do it for all of the others

This case (along with the Freddie Gray case in Baltimore) highlights the main points of BLM, which many people dismiss or misunderstood as just good o' fashion black and white racism.

Ice Cube rapped about police brutality in the late 80s, said it didn't matter if the cop is white or black. They'll slam you down to the street top all the same.

Policing in the US upholds white supremacy at its core and it doesn't need white people showing obvert racism. It's a systemic issue.

"Charged with" and "found guilty" are two very different things. We'll see how this plays out.

It's also the difference between (for the big BLM catalyst) a very storied criminal getting murdered by one man while others mostly stand by and fail to deliver aid. Toss in some racial motivation there for white-on-black violence.

Here we have a group of black people actively harming a single black man, not just a white guy doing it. We've also got a much bigger chase, more people involved in the beating, more video evidence in the file, and no white people involved at all. We've also got a victim with no criminal history at all.

Yeah there's absolutely some "the system thinks its more OK to beat on a black guy" going on here, but to imply there was racial motivation here is pretty sad.

good job neglecting my argument. there is clearly racial motivation in the swiftness of the prosecution.

want to make more straw man arguments or should i start arguing like you're five years old?
