Allman was a neighbor of mine for a short while about 23 years or so ago, living down the hill from me in a fairly large house here in Northern California, Marin County. He'd walk his dogs in the park and I mine, and we met a couple of times down there. As I recall, his wife seemed to look like Cher. Allman said he was taking a break from the LA crowd. He was overweight and fairly affable. I approached him as a neighbor, and not the star he was, never asking for an autograph but talking about dogs and keeping the subject pretty close to that. I never saw him out in town.
