I'd expect a craft brewery to have spent a lot more than that on their brewing equipment. I went to the website and it looks like some sort of garage experiment made with duct tape, foil, and bailing wire.

I think the amazing part was suppose to be the relatively inexpensive amount of money you can automate for.

Automation really isn't very complicated in a lot of cases, especially with something as (procedurally) simple as beer brewing. Most of the craft of beer-making is in the recipe and method. Otherwise it's just a lot of waiting around between a few very simple steps. I suppose this is one of those things that maybe looks more amazing when you don't know how it works. I see a couple of basic sensors, a few actuators, and maybe a few dozen lines of code. The rest is just gluing pre-built templates and APIs together - the programming equivalent of buying a timer at the hardware store and plugging it into an extension cord. Achievement.

I think this lets you brew/monitor brewing remotely which is awesome if you don't burn down your brewing area in a horrible fire.
