Candidate to negotiate Brexit trade deals walks away after failed negotiation

quote [ Jonathan Fried was considered to be the leading candidate but withdrew from the process when Sir Jeremy Heywood, the head of the civil service, would not budge on the £160,000 salary, The Times reported.

A number of other prominent trade negotiators did not even apply for the role – because they considered the salary offered to be too low. ]

England can't even negotiate its way to a salary. This is going to be amusing.

Considering the magnitude of the task, £160k is a paltry sum. One might think the job req was written by someone in HR rather than with actual knowledge of the skills needed. :-/

We need to save that money, to provide the NHS with an extra 350 million pounds a week.
