Death of a F***ing Salesman

quote [ A few years ago in New York, Al Pacino starred in a revival of David Mamet’s Glengarry Glen Ross, and the casting was poignant: In 1992, a much younger and more vigorous Pacino had played the role of hotshot salesman Ricky Roma in the film adaptation of the play; in the Broadway revival, a 72-year-old Pacino played the broken-down has-been Shelley Levene.

Glengarry Glen Ross is the Macbeth of real estate, full of great, blistering lines and soliloquies so liberally peppered with profanity that the original cast had nicknamed the show “Death of a F***ing Salesman.” But a few of those attending the New York revival left disappointed ... ]

It looks like the tone and direction at the National Review is shifting.

ahhh, Glengarry Glen Ross. I lived that movie when I did door to door sales. I was forced to watch it once a week by our sales manager.

"There is a psychopath in the White House and his administration is being assessed through the norms of political coverage."

Normalization of unthinkable action by public officials and a crumbling of public institutions. There is nobody I hate more in this Whitehouse more than Sessions so this kinda hit home with me...

"We have sunk so low that we must defend a racist, sexist, homophobic, lock-’em-up-and-throw-away-the-key attorney general from the president’s attempt to push him from power"

Historian Timothy Snyder: “It’s pretty much inevitable” that Trump will try to stage a coup and overthrow democracy

Yale historian and author of the new book "On Tyranny" says we may have one year left to save American democracy

The idea Trump isn't closing because of the Healthcare debate is pure projection. Dems really care about it. His actual supporters know who to blame for Obamacare, it's in the name.

As long as he keeps what's happening in Europe away from the US and gets the Wall started by 2019, he's in for the second term.

What bothers me, is that I don't think you're wrong. The fact is, if the Democrats don't get the presidency, Trump is going to be picking multiple SCOTUS judges and the Democrats don't seem to be "getting" that.

We're of course on different sides of the SCOTUS. Obama's pick was a shot across the bow striking blow to the 2nd amendment clear as day. Even so, it was still his right to choose; yes, I admit that. That was probably the wake up call conservatives got to make sure Democrats did not control the picks.

Honestly, I don't see Democrats having as much to worry about their principles being under threat. Abortion is going to stay legal til the end of the Republic. There are far more serious threats to liberty (gun ownership, freedom of speech) that are at stake the Left wants to chip away at.

I keep reminding people that Bill Clinton, Bush Jr., and Obama were all reviled by their opposition but won despite it. The incumbent advantage is not to be understated. It takes a seriously charismatic and widely appealing candidate (like ol Bill) to achieve the combo breaker. That means the Dem's have to come back to center but I'm betting they'll try another white woman or beige Bernie.

I saw the failure of the Dems to win in the first Democrat debate where the true liberals and Center Left were laughed off the stage with Hillary and Bernie trying to one up each other on socialist and identity bona fides.

By "the Dems have to come back to center" you mean moving back towards the left, I hope, instead of their usual "chasing the GOP further down the right-wing crazy train" antics.
