FCC will allow Alphabet’s Project Loon to deliver air balloon LTE to Puerto Rico

quote [ The helium balloons are expected to deliver emergency LTE cellular reception to allow residents and local governments to contact friends and family, coordinate relief and restoration efforts, and reestablish communication with the outside world. It’s unclear to what extent Loon will cover Puerto Rico or parts of the Virgin Islands, or how many balloons the team plans to deploy. ]

Now they need to allow peer-to-peer text passing when phones can't detect an active cell tower (built into all QUALCOMM chips by the way).

If only science and technology could fix stupid.

The Jones Act Waiver For Puerto Rico Just Expired And Won’t Be Renewed That means the U.S. island decimated by Hurricane Maria will go back to paying double the shipping costs for food and supplies.
