This reminds of a guy 'round these parts who, alas, is no longer with us. He and some friends made a nice spoof of Finnish coffee commercials that starred different craftsmen talking about their work.
Kyrpä-Jouni Quick & rough translation: "As I walk in the woods, I see my sculptures ready-made in the trees. I see them all-around, all the time. I am a sculptor. I carve wood. When I choose the material for the surface finishing, I have to carefully consider if it's going to be 'inside-use', so to speak, or just an art object. It is said that a piece of art is never finished, and yeah, in my opinion these are never perfect, but you just have to let go of them. It's like children leaving home. I never carve two similar woodcocks; a bit like in reality, there are... they are all unique, different. Night-time, day-time... different shapes, different sizes. It is not poor he, who has little, but he who wishes for more. I am rich. I am not lacking anything." "The same richness is used to produce Jounis' Giffe, a rich homewine." Some years back I actually thought about joining SEcretSanta just so I could've ordered a piece of work from Jouni, and send that with a link to this vid along with a translation. Then I thought my then-gf probably wouldn't have cared much for the fact that I'm going to spend more time and money on a present to a person I've never met than her... |
