quote [ Announcing new Steam Hardware from Valve: Steam Controller, Steam Machine, and Steam Frame are coming in 2026. Just like Steam Deck, all three devices are optimized for Steam and designed for players to get even more out of their Steam library. ]

I'm excited to be excited about VR hardware again. I was a DK2 owner and peaced out when Facebook ate it and Palmer outed himself as an alt-right edgelord.
I know Valve isn't perfect, but they tend to make good, consumer-friendly choices when it counts. Even if I prefer GOG for games, if it's anything like the Steam Deck, I expect it to be the first modern open VR platform. |

Ya, given that it's gonna run steamos, I imagine it's basically just gonna be a linux box for your face. So fingers crossed.

I own a Vive and index, and the specs on the frame are really impressive. It’s almost half the weight of the index while going wireless and hiding a computer and battery.
I wish the software ecosystem were more vibrant, but that’s impressive none the less. |

The more I read on it, the more I learn that it's heavily focused towards streaming. I'll be curious to see just how performant the all-in-one aspect is. It doesn't seem to be an afterthought, but definitely not highest priority. Being that it's an ARM processor, I wonder if there's a possibility of apk emulation. That would open it up to basically being a universal headset.
Some quick googling put me on to Waydroid so it's doable under linux, just a matter of compatiblity with HorizonOS and whatever pico and the others are running. edit: yeah, it looks like that's exactly what's happening.
