Trump dedicates golf trophy to hurricane victims

quote [ President Trump on Sunday dedicated a golf trophy to the victims of recent powerful storms that tore through Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico, all the while defending the government's response to the disasters. ]

Uhhh, wtf? At the worst how does his staff not prevent stuff like this?

In the span of seventy-two hours, President Donald Trump has fumed and fired a health chief with a penchant for taxpayer-funded private jets, bragged about a recovery process in Puerto Rico that bears little resemblance to reality on the ground, lashed the mayor of the island's capital city for questioning the federal response, and viewed a golf tournament from the "commissioner's suite" at a country club that costs $500,000 to join.

Trump's whiplash weekend heightens questions over leadership

Unless they find more and by more a money connection between him and the Kremlin for favors to be rendered....He won't spend one day in jail. A few other people involved look to be going away for short sentences maybe even as high a Jr. and Kershener. Flyn and Mafort should be getting their affairs in order. the only thing that can save them is a pardon....or a plea deal. Either way there will bee big sparks.

All of this should start to unfold on your TV in a few months...The Romanovs oh I meen the Trumps will be the last to be called ending with Don Sr. last....He will love it it will get great ratings.

Each succesive day, there is a new outrage from this fuggin guy. And every day my cynical response is "Gee, somebody should do something about this!" And they NEVER do.

But wall street is happy, and all the conservative business owners are happy that consumer confidence is up, rich people are hiring poor people for shit wages/ temporary service jobs, and corporations and the uberwealthy stand to save millions/billions of dollars for them and share holders. Regulations are lifted!! Finally!! Life is business!!! That's all I care about, right? Reducing my taxes, even if it's only a few hundred dollars!!! Fuck the poor people, I only belong to a community of strong, merit driven, alternate fact based, christian white males!!

What more could you ask for?

FEMA and national guard are on the ground delivering aid, cleaning up and rebuilding infrastruture in Puerto Rico. Trump has suspended the Jones shipping act. The federal response to the crisis has been as fast and as rigorous had, for example, the president not been called Trump.

Does the PR government need a public rebuke from the president for being inept, corrupt, and bankrupt and therefore being totally reliant on federal help to rebuild? This is debatable. Is playing a golf tournament (also attended by Obama, Bush, and Clinton .. it's the president's cup) and dedicating the cup to the people of PR poor messaging? This is also debatable. It does not, however, materially affect anything on the ground in PR.

A consequence of acting like a narcissistic pathological liar is that you don't get the benefit of a doubt. A consequence of valuing loyalty over competence is that the subordinates you choose are either deficient or hamstrung.

I believe the president would rather deal with criticism than actually do a proper job. Hell, it strengthens his brand by making him seem tough and discredits detractors. So information from the white house in terms of its own efficacy is straight up propaganda. So who to trust in regards to honest critique on the governments response? Well there are some people uniquely qualified to make an assessment.

Why is this important? Because this administration has demonstrated it needs adult supervision.

Just a random note, but suspending the Jones Act for 10 days does nothing and is a throw-away gesture.

And there is no reason it couldn't have been faster with people stationed off the American island during the storm. It wasn't a huge surprise it was coming and that they'd need help. They just didn't - probably due to lack of resources rather than being inept however.

Trump tweeted "Can you believe that, with all of the problems and difficulties facing the U.S., President Obama spent the day playing golf" and constantly promised how he wouldn't play golf/go on vacations during the presidency.

He's since played golf nearly double what Obama had during his first year and went to play golf after a devastating national disaster. Its worth pointing out for the tone-deafness of the action as well as the utter hypocrisy.

And no, the aid sent was not fast nor sufficient. The Jones suspension took far longer than it needed to to occur and was incredibly brief. They are still without supplies in many areas. They are begging for additional assistance and Trump's reply was to accuse the government of being told by Democrats to suddenly be mean to poor Trump, and that Puerto Ricans are just not doing enough work. He would rather attack the victims of a natural disaster than actually help them.

I suppose you're right - its unlikely to directly effect those in Puerto Rico, mainly because most of them still don't have reliable power to see the President's stupid tweets.

He ran a campaign that offered nothing in the way of actual policy, and was just filled with the shallow rhetoric of personal attacks, bullying insults, and divisiveness. This is how he'll be judged.

He made that bed and must lie in it.
