quote [ So I started off with that title track and my manager was like, 'Yo, let's really dive into that state and how you got to where you are now, and how this follows what people go through to get back to a so-called 'normal' situation'. […] The concept album follows a veteran through combat experience, his return home, relationship dissolution, drug addiction, painful depression, and, finally, a triumphant but realistically rendered decision to keep living and struggling. ]
In defence of contemporary hip hop, here's a good artist/producer: Full album listen and more videos in extended.

Here's a partial list of the stuff I listen to. Tried to put in a few tracks with lyrics, found out most of the hip hop I like is instrumental lol. I had to leave the Madlib track instrumental (no hate on Gibbs, however I just love this instrumental so much better. TBH Madlib could make barfing sound sexy with his cuts & loops).
Jeremiah Jae - Good Times 14 Chocolate City Jeremiah Jae - Shake Stunt (feat. Oliver the 2nd) FLYING LOTUS / MASQUATCH FEAT. DOOM MF DOOM feat RZA - Books of War Madlib - Thuggin' (Instrumental) (Official) - Piñata Beats Action Bronson, Samiyam - Mr. Wonderful Flying Lotus - Getting There (Feat. Niki Randa) There's plenty decent hip hop out there, just not that in your face I suppose. And honestly I don't really mind. |

Absolutely! And this quickly defies genre definitions – Thundercat is another favorite of mine, albeit pretty much jazz already:

Ahhh Thundercat. I love his sound though -for me personally- he kinda screwed up Flylo. I really dug Flylo’s older stuff but am not too big on his recent jazz trip. Funny how that works.
