HR1 - The For The People Act of 2019

quote [ This historic reform legislation—the most sweeping since Watergate—includes policies to ban members of Congress from serving on for-profit corporate boards or using nonpublic information to personally enrich themselves. It also shines a bright light on dark money and foreign money in our elections and enacts a small-dollar campaign finance system to vastly amplify the voices of everyday Americans in our elections. CAP urges the House to quickly pass the For the People Act in order to curb corruption in our political system and rebuild the public’s confidence in our elections and our government. ]

Good first day. To bad it will never be law, but what it does is lay down the marker of what should be. Which is about all we can expect from this congress.

HR1 - The For The People Act of 2019

You shouldn't expect anything out of this congress as far as new law. It will be deadlocked for two years. What it can do is stake out positions and maybe. most importantly. keep Trump's hands off the treasury and stop the financing of his agenda. The house is the keeper of the checkbook.

The House wasn't the only thing that changed in the last election. Governors offices and state houses changed as well.

Of course he is, it fits his MO. Term limits limit the power of elected representatives, which in turn increases the power of lobbyists. We already of term limits -- they're called elections. Instead, we should be limiting outgoing representatives from joining lobbyist firms.
