There are many, many institutions here in the U.K. that need modernising but I think this is one of the starkest examples. If there's a more perfect metaphor for the ruling strata's desire to cling to antiquated and idiotic structures than the continuous struggle to inhabit, work in and effectively govern from the Palace of Westminster I've not seen it.
Mind you, having been to several functions there and in the interest of balance, they do serve incredible cake. Come to think of it, that might be a better metaphor .... |
