quote [ Twitch streamer who used an electroencephalogram device to beat Elden Ring with her mind now using to destroy at Halo multiplayer. ]

For the accessibility mark I hope this "hardware" does not go the way of the post below.

like seriously do we just assume this as a given or what?
heck it even works with a steady-cam mounted on a BIGDOG.
Someone convince me this has a use for Good.

Being able to monitor brain activity and other biometrics while someone uses a fully immersive VR rig could lead to fascinating advancements in understanding not just cognition but things like how to take advantage of the placebo effect. But it's not. It's gonna be used against us.🎉

Optimism. Always optimism.
Actually, you might be able to use this to "ride" drones in tight spaces where cables would get in the way.
Like for tomb and ruin excavation.

Pessimism of the intellect, optimism of the will. - Antonio Gramsci

You could probably do all that stuff more efficiently without the eeg though. I'm afraid I'm not familiar with Zelazny's work. Worth checking out?

I am a big fan of his.
Home is the Hangman is a short story / novella about a "robot" that is a combination remote-telemetry semi-autonomous device that can be controlled by operators but also has learning and decision-making software.
Picture one of the current landers like Discovery which can perform by itself (especially due to signal lag) but also can be "piloted" THe developers take it out the night before the launch to give it a taste of "freedom" and in the process accidentally kill someone.
It's hushed up and they launch the system. Everything performs according to profile.
But then radio silence.
- and it comes back.

The writing always has a hin of poetry. - in a good way.

Sounds interesting. I'll put it on my list, thanks!

Looks like the story is included in an anthology called My Name Is Legion. I added it to my list.

It would be the best thing ever for quadriplegics or people with locked in syndrome.
gendo666 said @ 7:28pm GMT on 18th Sep
I hadn't thought of that. Good idea.
Also, this comment gets a plug for John Scalzi's LOCK IN books.
