We've been raising quail on our homestead. Might never go back to eating chicken.

You want the jumbo quails for sure if you are raising for meat; they are about a pound each when full grown. Typically 1 regular sized bird (10oz) is an appetizer and 2 is entree. The benefit is that they don't need as much space or time as a chicken - they are butcher weight at 10-12 weeks, and laying fetile eggs at 6 weeks.
