She (1935)

quote [ She (1935) it appears to be a typical 1930s adventure movie but at the same time it is not, it does have something special about it. I felt a total of about 15 minutes of this movie was magical, done with great love and care. The scenography is pretty good during the whole second half. The story is about love with juxtaposing immortality and mortality, so has some vampiric romance elements to it. Of course there are plenty of flaws, as expected from a 90 years old movie. ]

Via Mastodon gamedev movie recommendations. Main link goes to internet archive. Campy film made of a 1887 Gothic novel.

I really like this version if only because it's set in the North.
Although the Jungle versions are good as well.
I read this at 2 I think. It was *different*
I have a sweet spot for Lost World / Jungle adventure stories.

For a more "modern" take may I suggest (not necessarily guaranteeing quality.)

The Million Eyes of Sumuru
and
The Girl from Rio (1969 film)
Which are more Sax Rohmer but still contain a "She Who Must Be Obeyed"

I'll add it to my list.
