JRR Tolkien changed the Gollum part of The Hobbit to put it more in line with The Lord of the Rings.

He also changed how he described Gollum after the amazing Tove Jansson drew him for a translation - https://i.redd.it/x6msf5tc8j6c1.jpeg - and JRR realized he didn't really give enough details.

That's not at all what I was expecting to see. He looks more like an ent than the Gollum I know.
