Out of curiosity, I looked up what a soft drink is. I never really knew. It turns out that soft drinks are called soft to differentiate them from hard drinks, which contain alcohol.

It took me ages to realize that as well. I knew what soft drinks were, but I was never arsed to research the definition. I had to stumble over the explaination in a recipie for when I was making cider for the penny to drop.
