Swedish band Wintergatan has made a musical instrument out of 3000 marbles wood and metal. Something for fans of both music and tinkering. There are also a bunch of related build videos up on you-tube as well.

Intel showcased their Atom processor in 2011 with a real life Pipe Dream demo. Animusic was the best.

If you check out his channel, he has a series of videos on the designing and building of this thing. He has a woodworking shop and does it all himself. This thing is in essence a programmable music box. Give it a full pentatonic scale keyboard with at least two octaves and it could play just about anything.
