Judge Bans Atlanta Media From Publishing Story

quote [ The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Fulton County Superior Court Judge Jerry Baxter signed the order Friday that "restrained and enjoined" the media, particularly TV station Fox 5 Atlanta from airing "a certain news story." ]

When someone tells someone to shut up, it's not a violation of First Amendment rights, when an employer fires or suspends an employee for saying something detrimental to their company in public it's not a violation of First Amendment rights, *THIS* is a violation of First Amendment rights.

***EDIT*** being reported that the bar has now been lifted, but it never should be been enacted to begin with:

I didn't directly link to the The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in the header because most of the article is behind a paywall I don't have access to. Buzzfeed article included because I'm sure the comments will be good for the LOLs.

***EDIT*** bar on story has now been lifted:

Here in Canada, it's pretty common for a judge to impose a media publication ban on certain information while a trial is in progress. The bans are usually lifted once a conviction/acquittal is reached.

Oh, he signed it in error. That's alright then :-/

For some reason I am unable to trust anyone who wheres a bow tie. Or ties in general for that matter.

Eh, at least he admitted he made a mistake. Kind of rare in the justice system in my experience.

I guess I'm jaded - I see this as a political mea culpa by someone who saw that their action was going to have a negative impact on their next election so they backtracked.

Like I said - jaded. Also, I've done some IT work for Fulton County Courts which probably doesn't do much to elevate my opinion.

I misread the title and thought this was about the Mayor of Atlanta blocking journalists on Twitter.

Which is more humorous than troubling.

Kasim has been too busy kissing hands and shaking babies at places like Chops Lobster Bar in Buckhead (saw him there a couple weeks ago) to bother with that Twitter-verse stuff. I'm guessing his lackey doesn't like reporters much.
