I used to think Connery was the shit, until I heard him speak outside the realm of acting. He's a douche canoe.

I liked Moore, however if I'm going to be honest, I think Daniel Craig is closer to the Bond of the books, minus a shit ton of the misogyny.

Are you saying the books or Daniel Craig is misogynist? Because the books are pretty damn misogynist.

I had a girlfriend who read Fleming's Bond as if it was porn, literally reading with one hand. She particularly liked his physical description of Bond and the way Bond treated women. That was her masturbatory fantasy at least, but not her real life pleasure.

Books. Big time. Bond in the books is flawed, and often ends up in shitty situations due to his own ignorance and arrogance. I would say the misogyny is more a reflection of the time and culture that Fleming lived in.

Indeed.

He was my least favorite Bond but he never seemed to take himself too seriously so I give him that.

He was my first Bond - first one I remember watching was "For Your Eyes Only" - and for years he was my favorite. Then I got into the older movies, and Connery was that dude, and his movies made the Moore movies look silly (to me). Still, Moore and his Bond movies will always hold a special place in my nostalgia.

It's like Doctor Who - it's the same character, but with an entirely different tone. If I want a more light-hearted and fun spy movie, I go to Moore. If I want something more serious but still over the top, I go to Connery.

Moore had the great one liners, the easy charm, the eyebrow. He was a very likeable Bond, but I think that's what people objected to. Connery gave Bond a steel edge that Moore never felt necessary to bring to the part.

Yeah, Moore's Bond never made me think, "Oh, this guy will kill you, in cold blood, if necessary." You got that vibe from Connery (mostly because the man oozed testosterone), Dalton, a bit from Brosnan, and DEFINITELY from Craig (but not really from Lazenby, who seemed closer in temperament Bond-wise to Moore). That being said, Moore was not a bad Bond - just a different and lighter one that didn't seem to carry the weight of the free world on his shoulders.

It's a sad day. But least he will be remembered fondly for his great personality on and off the screen.

Rest well Sir Knight.
