Democrats must choose between being the party of the Good Aristocrats and the party that fights Authoritarians.

quote [ Corbyn made significant gains where nearly every political expert in Europe expected him to march off an electoral cliff. He did so by abandoning dyed-in-the-wool aristocratic Tory voters, energizing new, young Labour voters with policy, and making a direct psychological challenge to authoritarian appeals.

There’s a lesson there for the Democratic Party. It can be the party of the Good Aristocrats, or it can be the Anti-Authoritarian Party. But it can’t be both. ]

Yet to be determined which way the party goes.

The People’s Summit is returning to Chicago in June, and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has been tabbed to deliver the event's keynote address.

The younger progressives will attempt to wrest control from the establishment, pulling the party to left. The establishment's resources will prove to be an insurmountable challenge, as they cut out progressive candidates legs from beneath them, all the while pleading for "unity". In the end, progessives will call their defeat a victory, because "look how far we've come". And the establishment will retain control, because "who else are you gonna vote for? The Republicans?"

Source: Dean and Sanders.

And, hopefully, progressives will simply refuse to vote for Democrats that won't represent them.

Corbyn is living proof that Britain is a liberal democracy. In any lesser nation he would have been tried and hung for being an asshole. From opposing the retaking the Falkland Islands from the fascist argentinian junta, to enjoying the camaraderie of IRA terrorists (pre-reconciliation) and to laying a wreath at the grave of one of the Munich Olympic murders.
Fuck him.

They might be reading too much into the UK election. It was as much as a second brexit referendum as it was about policy direction.

And May doesn't stir the imagination, she's a weak party leader. So I don;t thing there is much of a take away for the Democrats in the US, other than, don't select a leader no one really likes. I mean, if it takes a UK election to hammer that one crucial point home, they're screwed.
