Kevin Smith is donating his Weinstein residuals to a charity for women in filmmaking

quote [ There are few people in Hollywood who’ve profited more from their association with Harvey Weinstein than Kevin Smith. The Clerks director’s career might not even exist if Weinstein’s Miramax hadn’t picked up his 1994 debut for championing and distribution. That relationship has, of course, now been clouded by the allegations that have come out against Weinstein in the last few weeks, with dozens of women alleging that he sexually harassed or assaulted them. ]

I've always liked Kevin Smith, this just makes me like him more.

I think Tarantino put it best, quoted as "I knew enough to do more than I did."

And everyone near Weinstein, anyone with close working ties to the company, would've known enough to do more than they did, too.

Ok, part my take on this is partly colored by the fact that in every video I've seen of Smith he's come across as a self-important, self-aggrandizing man-child, but this gesture of rings hollow. Announcing very loudly that he's doing the right thing, without any admission that he previously did the wrong thing, seems somehow exactly typical.

It's possible he was not on "confidential" terms with him, but Smith must have heard all the stories. Everyone must have.
