I'm warning people against undue optimism since it breeds complacency. |

What good is being alert if nobody actually does anything because they have no power?
Fearing complacency while acting the same regardless of action, is pretty much complacency anyway. |

Curious as to what you mean by "while acting the same regardless of action." What exactly am I doing that is being complacent, here?
Feels like you're just dressing up the "no u" argument. |

The trouble is, talking about pretty much anything on the internet is next to useless. It makes us feel great and when its over we feel quite accomplished but really, all we did was either preach to the choir or upset someone. Neither really helps anything and while warning others can be helpful, it is the actual acting that helps us. We are not capable of doing much beyond protest and petition which are both frowned upon so we feel as though we are powerless.
Go out and actually act, just don't claim that complacency isn't the actual goal of this sort of "action". Warning about being complacent is as just about as useless as being complacent. |

Strange how the people I know who participate in direct action have healthy and informative discussions about political theory and praxis online. But on a site I own that spent the Trump years non-stop posting about every little inconsequential thing he did and then went radio silent on presidential actions the second there was a dem in office, that site needs the people who warn them about complacency to log off and touch grass. Wild how that works.

It's almost as if the system itself is broken and because of that we are incapable of looking at the real problems in any meaningful way. Almost as if its not a matter of which side to blame, but a bad coin overall.

Except the system is not broken, it's working precisely as it's meant to. Something the people I mention in the former section of my comment understand but those in the latter don't and then start dropping ignorant fluff about how certain topics shouldn't be discussed online.

I'm not convinced Merchan will actually put him in jail. But a jury verdict is objectively hard to appeal, and Merchan's caution during the trial will make it even harder.
Yes, skepticism is healthy, but until we have an actual reason for disappointment in this situation: Happy Trump Felony Conviction Day! |

Of course he'll never go to jail. He may be ordered to pay a fine, though, which he won't pay.

Well...if you thought this was a blow to DeSantis or the populist fuckwit wing of American Politics, that's wrong, and stupid. Since DeSantis aint on the ballot, I will settle for any blow landing on Trump.
Personally, I have been complacent for quite some time, and consider all the press about what a good chance he has to be horserace bullshit to sell product. Still do, nothing to do with the verdict. The "normally uncounted votes" that showed up for him the first time did not show up in 2020. The Libertards rejected him where they embraced him in 2016. All the talk about Arabs staying home because of Gaza?? RIGHT! They would much rather have Muslim travel bans and an asshole who is so pro-Israel that he makes Biden look like Abu fucking Nidal. Please, do go off about wtfever you think you are talking about. |

Polls seem to indicate a fair number of disinterested voters. This is a pretty significant ruling for the "normal person" who doesn't care about politics and it's the first actually bad mainstream media headlines Trump has received in a while that he can't really dodge. He is a convicted felon. And that might be enough to move the needle on the few thousands of votes needed to change things. We'll see in the next round of polls.

Dude can run for president but can’t vote for himself.
A New York Times article a few months ago asked the jurors and alternates where they claim they get their news from.
Even then, these two voted guilty on all charges. |
