Is it physically possible for a human male to have sex with a female crocodile?

I've been reading "Sexual Pathology" (1947, 4th edition) by Magnus Hirschfeld, because I am a fucking weirdo. Magnus is a gay, German sex scientist, long deceased, with a fascinating history. In his book, I read:

"Egyptians are said to have had coitus with female crocodiles". And that's all he said on the matter. What the hell? See extended for more...
