SAND -- Extra Cheap for One Day!

quote [ Costs less than an actual bag of sand! ]

Sand collects all five parts into a single novel. This story is not related to Wool. It is a standalone and a perfect first work of mine to check out. The cover art is by Jason Gurley, and the interior includes artwork by Ben Adams. I?ve never been more proud of a printed work in my entire life.

The story is about family and about societies that need help but get ignored. Inspired by today?s headlines and also by the sort of familial strife that we?re all familiar with, I think this might be my most powerful work to date. I hope you enjoy.

Hugh Howey is favorite author right now and Amazon has put his latest book SAND on the cheap list. If you haven't heard of HH before this is a good place to start. I would encourage everyone to check out his site and read everything he's written.

Daily Deal! 2014-04-06 only!
(That means it's only good for one day)

SAND is Amazon's Kindle Daily Deal today! That's kind of a big deal. It means they drop the price to $1.99. Yeah, for the entire novel. Sure, that means I get paid less, but I'm down with that. It also means (hopefully) more readers. And more people reading!

If you subscribe to this newsletter, it's probably by accident. If it's not an accident, maybe you've already read SAND and now you're feeling like you overpaid. Don't let your friends and family overpay! Tell them to put down that bag of sand (or coffee) and pick up a book instead!

You don't need a Kindle to read this edition, you know. They have a free Kindle app for every tablet, phone, laptop, and PC imaginable. Better yet, they also dropped the price of the audiobook to 99 cents (for those who already own the e-book). Which means you can have both for three bucks. It's criminal. And I'm encouraging it.

The best part of a Daily Deal is watching the book climb up the Amazon charts. As I write this, it's 6am on the east coast, and SAND is at #322. If it reaches #1, I'm going to attribute it to my newsletter subscribers spreading the word. In which case, I'll be entering you all in a giveaway for a very unique prize. I have a full set of the five individual proof copies of SAND paperbacks. There will never be more of these. They will never go on sale. It's unlikely that SAND will get to #1, but if it happens, one of you will receive that proof set. Just so you know the odds, there are 7,025 subscribers to this newsletter. But most of those signups were accidental, and most people deleted this as soon as they saw it. So your chances are pretty good.

Here's SAND on Amazon for $1.99

Thanks for the support, everyone. And Happy Sanday!

Ok, what the fuck is this shit, OP? The first two paragraphs appear to be written BY Hugh Howie, the next refers to Hugh Howie in the third person, and the rest seems to be copy/pasted from some kind of newsletter, again written by Hugh Howie.

I can only assume one of these three this is happening here:

1) My phone is failing to render some kind of vital formatting that would clearly distinguish your words from those of Mr. Howie. (Unlikely but not impossible, so out of fairness I'll withhold my down mod until I can see this on a real computer.)

2) You're a fan of Mr. Howie's work whose enthusiasm exceeds your copy/pasting skill. (But not enough of a fan to tell us in your own words why this book is any good instead of just copying crap out of a newsletter.)

3) You ARE this Hugh Howie person and you're a shitty writer.

Actually, I think even a simple Amazon link would be worthy IF it was accompanied by a detailed personal review ("Here's why I think SE-ers might like this book..."), had links to similar authors in the extended, sparked a discussion about the genre, etc. Basically, if the link goes to a single product, then the post has to be about MORE than just the link.

Can you drop a hint as to what it's about for those of us too lazy to click the link?

Also, I can heartily recommend the books set in Robert Bevan's Caverns and Creatures universe. The best description I've read of them is "if The Hangover was set in Middle-Earth". If you follow Bevan on Facebook, he will periodically give away his short stories and his first C and C novel, Critical Failures. Full disclosure: he did dedicate his short story, "Cooper's Christmas Carol" to me when I singlehandedly doubled his hardcover sales.
Dumbledorito said @ 6:18pm GMT on 6th Apr [Score:2]
I've read it. It's... okay. It's a post-apoc story set in a desertified Colorado where the business of "sand diving" drives the economy. You get yourself a dive suit, put its electrodes on your head, and you can dive through sand as if it was water. You can also then use sand as a superpower, "drowning" people or making the sand as hard as cement around them.

Divers find artifacts of the old world hundreds of meters below the sand, bringing up suitcases, metal artifacts, and sometimes working technology (a neon sign in a bar is one such item). All the while, the rich live in a walled-off estate behind a massive dam against the encroaching sand while the poor dive, haul sand away, and rebuild their homes as the sand buries/collapses the old ones.

The actual story is about a family that used to rule the town most of the story takes place in, a mysterious land to the east where nobody returns, and the discovery of the "Lost City of Dan-var" (Denver). If this isn't the first in a series, it leaves a lot more questions than answers, and the sci-fi is pretty sci-fantasy.

Hugh Howey is best known for his "Wool" Omnibus, which is far, far better. It's post-apoc with survivors living in vaults, overseers with agendas & secrets, and what the fate of humanity's remnant will be. If you like Fallout, it's a good series, though it lacks mutants, radiation, or FEV.
GordonGuano said @ 6:30pm GMT on 6th Apr
Ok, now this is kinda weird-Robert Bevan is part of a self-published writers collective called Dead Pixel Publications, and one of the other authors in the group, Will Swardstrom has written a couple books set in the Wool universe. Weird.
Dumbledorito said @ 7:51pm GMT on 6th Apr
I wasn't aware there were other novels outside of "Wool," "Shift," and "Dust."

Given the setting (don't want to spoil anything), it'd be easy to have more tales, I guess. It could be quite Vaul-Tec if they wanted it to be.
